The Ondo State Government has ordered the closure of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic Staff School and most of the staff have been relieved from their duties.

The development came up 7th of August, 2019, as a shock to Teaching & Non-Teaching Staff, Parents and the student populace at large.

During an interview with the Head Mistress (H.M) of the School (Primary Section), Mrs. Amaka Ojomo J.P and her Assistant, Mr. Oloye Joseph O, confirmed the development.

They both explained that the school was established 29 years ago, by the first Rector of Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Adeyeri in 1990/1991, before he handed over to Prof. Adejemila in 1994/1995.

The Head Mistress said that most of the staff have been disengaged from their job, while some of the Administrators have been redeployed somewhere else.

Amaka explained that the unfortunate development was because government usually receive limited income or profit from the school after enormous spending, expressing that government is planning to privatize the school; adding that the decision by the government didn’t happen overnight, maintaining that there have been agitation, lobbying and organizing of various committees set up to privatize the school, in order to relief government of the money being spent on the school.

She couldn’t hide her sadness, saying “This situation is unfortunate“.

Amaka further stated that money expended on the education of students and pupils of the establishment, such as RUGIPO Staff children and the children of the host community (Owo), is not supposed to be too much for the government.

She said RUGIPO Staff, Stylites of the Institution (Nursing students), Parents in the community and other neighboring communities have benefited from the school, stressing that many parents have also benefited from the scholarships given to their children.
